There are many things you need to consider when designing your deck and choosing your contractor. Here we'll answer your questions, of course if you have a question that is not answered, just ask, we'd be more than happy to answer it for you.

Selecting a Contractor
Q:	What should I look for/do when selecting a contractor to build my deck?
A:	Compare costs by asking for bids from at least 2 or 3 contractors Don't automatically choose the lowest bid Ask for, and check, the contractors most recent local references. Be wary if they are more than 12 months old. Be sure the contractor is insured and can provide a certificate of insurance to include workers compensation for your protection Check with your city codes adminstration office to find out if the contractor is licensed to do business in your area Top

General Deck Questions
Q:	Is a permit required?
A:	If a contractor tells you a permit isn't required, be wary. Check with the building codes section of the city you live in. Some cities don't require a permit, if for example a deck is below 30" from the ground. A permit helps to ensure the homeowner that the project is built to applicable building codes. Top
Q:	Is there such a thing as a maintenance free deck?
A:	For sure, some materials require more maintenance than others. Without the appropriate sealer, applied correctly, most woods will turn grey and weather poorly. Composite decking materials provide as close to a maintenance free product that you can find. Metals and fiberglass in railings will outlast the normal wood railing and through the years will require much less maintenance. Top
Q:	What does a deck cost per square foot?
A:	The cost of any project is influenced by the overall size, height off the ground, materials used and any special features included. Our practice is to look at each project individually and bid to a specific set of specifications. Top
